ROBERT MONTGOMERY

July 17th, 2012 — 5:25pm

British artist Robert Montgomery worked on an exhibition project in co-operation with ‘Neue Berliner Räume’ that will be on display over the course of summer 2012 at the disused Tempelhof Airport and in the form of works on billboards at various other locations across town. Robert Montgomery is using the medium of language as the central form of expression. I tied a wish to a tree the other day - got me thinking about poets – lyric artists…..Robert you came to mind.

JANET ECHELMAN

April 19th, 2012 — 5:05pm

This is certainly not hot off the press, I could be very much last in line to mention something regarding this phenomenal artist, but I just could not resist it anymore !!!!! I mean flippen wow ek se !!!!!. This is Janet Echelman’s story, quoted below, its absolutly incredible…..no need to say anything further the visuals and text speck for themselves.

“American artist Janet Echelman reshapes urban airspace with monumental, fluidly moving sculpture that responds to environmental forces including wind, water, and sunlight.  Echelman first set out to be an artist after graduating college. She moved to Hong Kong in 1987 to study Chinese calligraphy and brush-painting. Later she moved to Bali, Indonesia, where she collaborated with artisans to combine traditional textile methods with contemporary painting.  When she lost her bamboo house in Bali to a fire, Echelman returned to the United States and began teaching at Harvard. After seven years as an Artist-in-Residence, she returned to Asia, embarking on a Fulbright lectureship in India. With the promise to give painting exhibitions around the country, she shipped her paints to Mahabalipuram, a fishing village famous for sculpture. When her paints never arrived, Echelman, inspired by the local materials and culture, began working with bronze casters in the village.  She soon found the material too heavy and expensive for her Fulbright budget. While watching local fishermen bundling their nets one evening, Echelman began wondering if nets could be a new approach to sculpture: a way to create volumetric form without heavy, solid materials.  By the end of her Fulbright year, Echelman had created a series of netted sculpture in collaboration with the fishermen. Hoisting them onto poles, she discovered that their delicate surfaces revealed every ripple of wind. Today Echelman has constructed net sculpture environments in metropolitan cities around the world.”

JIM SANBORN

April 12th, 2012 — 1:40pm

Jim Sanborn is a phenomenally educated but more importantly talented individual.  With over 40 years experience in the manipulation and making of light sculptures, this man has done it all.  How cool is his new project “developing a new body of museum and gallery works about the global trade in looted antiquities.” The below images are photographs from his ‘The Topographic Projections and Implied Geometries Series’.These images were produced by direct, large format, light projection.  The projector, powered by a mobile generator, is moved from site to site.  All of the pieces are photographed at night using long exposures.  On moonless nights, the landscape was lit with searchlights.  The landforms themselves are quite large, requiring the projector and camera to be, on average, 1/2 mile away from the subject landscape.

! Bloody beautiful !

HENRY WILSON

March 12th, 2012 — 7:01pm

Henry Wilson is an internationally respected young Australian Product Designer, with an ever-increasing profile in Europe, Australia, the UK and US. His practice is built around his belief that design should respond to a real need, an ethos we were keen to reflect in his identity. The brandmark was designed to reflect the crafted yet utilitarian nature of his products, where form and function coexist in harmony. We designed it to remain ledgible regardless of reproduction techniques. Whether it be stamped, embossed, or created with a branding iron, it retains its strength and identity while simultaneously absorbing the characteristics of whatever it is applied to.

The following images are from a very very cool blog focused primarily on graphic design, identity and the labor of love within craft. There is plenty more to feast your eyes on…. enjoy: http://www.septemberindustry.co.uk/
